I heard the news Lahaina town in U.S. was damaged by a mountain fire. I was really surprised when I saw this on TV. In September 2016, I visited Lahaina town, and it was a truly lovely place. Walking around Lahaina, I felt time passing slowly, which was quite enjoyable.
People often mention that Lahaina is an old town in Hawaii, and I felt the same way. Lahaina has a sense of history, almost like Kyoto in Japan. Both town have a rich historical background as former capital cities.
I have a special connection to Lahaina through the design of Reyn Spooner’s aloha shirts. They have a design called “Lahaina sailor,” inspired by Lahaina town. I’m really found of this design.
Given my connection to Lahaina, the recent fire news saddened me deeply. Even though I’ve only been to Lahaina once, I have a genuine affection for the town. Living in Japan, which is far away from Lahaina, I’ve been thinking about what I can do. One idea is to share my memories of Lahaina and the beauty of Hawaii. The main goal is to introduce others to the charm of Lahaina and Hawaii.
